The Sun. Your Source for Vitamin D.
|
The staff at Karen's Energy loves the sun, and understands its powerful effects on human life. Just as the sun’s rays give life to all living creatures as well as the plant kingdom, it offers our bodies the chance to detoxify, nourish and create the chemical reactions that produce life within us. The sun is our greatest resource.
Vitamin D is created when UVB rays touch our skin. A chemical reaction occurs, thus providing our bodies with this invaluable nutrient. With so much negativism reported on sunlight exposure, it is no surprise people may fear the sun! But alas, if our bodies are clean and nourished with an abundance of minerals and antioxidants found in living food, we have nothing to fear! |
Vitamin D Prevents:
osteoporosis, depression, prostate cancer, autism, breast cancer, and even effects diabetes and obesity! |
What do we do for vitamin D when winter comes?
Vitamin D is an essential nutrient to your vibrant health. Your body produces Vitamin D naturally when your skin is in contact with the sunlight. An increase in Vitamin D levels can make a tremendous difference for your heart health, bone health, skin health, your immune system and even your mood!

The 3 Ways to get the Vitamin D Your Body Needs:
#1 Sunlight exposure is the very best way to get your vitamin D. If you live in a cooler climate, if you work indoors or don't spend adequate time out in the sun, you may not be generating the vitamin D your body needs. Studies show that your vitamin D levels may plummet more than 50% in the winter alone! #2 You can use supplementation with vitamin D3. If you choose to use supplementation, make sure you have your vitamin D levels tested regularly. You and your physician need to be aware of your vitamin D levels, so you can adjust your supplementation accordingly. #3 The third alternative for Vitamin D is to use a tanning system that utilizes UV-B rays that help you naturally produce the vitamin D your body needs. During the fall and winter months, the staff of Nature’s Garden enjoy the health benefits of the Vitality Light System, and so can you! |

A Touch of Light History
From the days of the ancient Greeks, light was considered to be a stream of small particles. The late 1600's brought forth the theory that light travels in "waves" rather than a stream of particles. Hundreds of years later, Albert Einstein theorized that light was made from a stream of little packets of energy called photons.
Today's physicists understand that light can behave as both a wave and a particle as the particles (Einstein’s photons) travel in a wave like pattern at the speed of light. Today, we also understand that this movement of particles -electromagnetic radiation (EM Energy) -is all around us, although we can only see some of it. With more and more research, we discover that light is a very complex subject, which there is much more yet to be discovered!
When light interacts with any material, including your body tissue, the tissues absorb the little energy particles called photons. Your skin has the ability to take the photons of infrared light from the sun (or from other sources), and use them to stimulate cellular regeneration.

The EM spectrum is divided into categories. These categories are defined by a range of numbers. These ranges describe the activity level, or how energetic the photons are, and the size of the wavelength in each category.
NOTE: In the middle of the spectrum, we have what is known as the visible light spectrum at about 400 to 700 nm. This visible light spectrum contains the colors that range from violet to blue to green to yellow to orange to red. |
The Different Types of UV RadiationSunlight is the most common form of UV radiation. Sunlight produces three main types of UV rays:
#1 UVA (these rays have the longest wavelengths that can penetrate the middle layer of your skin called the dermis.) UVA rays help you produce a tan, and naturally protect your body from sunburn. UVA rays can also help protect you from overdosing on vitamin D. #2 UVB (rays have a short wavelength that reaches the outer layer of your skin called the epidermis.) The sun's UVB rays are crucial to help your body produce vitamin D. #3 UVC (these rays have the shortest wavelengths.) |
Red Light Benefits
Red Light is another beneficial light from the visible spectrum in the 633 nm wavelength. Exposure to Red Light naturally stimulates your skin cells to produce collagen, elastin and enzymes. These provide support for your skin. Collagen and elastin break down as you age, and if you smoke or have an acidic diet this process can move faster leading to wrinkles and lines in your skin.
Red light in the 633 nm range can give you a more youthful appearance while improving the texture, hydration and tone of your skin.
Blue Light Benefits
Blue light is a special type of light in the 417-419 nm wavelength of the visible spectrum. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, blue light can increase your skin health. Blue light is completely safe and generates no additional heat or harmful radiation. Blue light therapies are often known to help support the body’s skin health.

Infrared Heat, also known as Radiant Heat
Infrared heat is any kind of heat you can feel from a distance. This heat can be from the sun, a stove, a light bulb, or even heat from another person.
Infrared is different from ultraviolet light as it heats objects directly. It does not heat the air in between the heat source and the object. Infrared light in the range of 700-2000nm has been known to:
· Penetrate to a depth of 1.2 to 1.6 inches (more deeply than other parts of the light spectrum) stimulating body cells and cell growth.
· Raise your white blood cell count
· Cause DNA or protein synthesis in your cells.
· Produce temporary relief of muscular pain and spasm...
· Relieve your occasional joint aches and stiffness...
· Provide a comforting feeling of penetrating warmth...
· Stimulate your blood flow and circulation...
· Invigorate your metabolism..
· Strengthen the health of your immune system...
· Provide a healthy cardiovascular system...
· Nourish a man's prostate
· Give you healthy skin...
· And much more...

Scientists at the Vitamin D Council agree that both children and adults should have a Vitamin D level of 50 ng/ml all year-round. They recommend the use of Dr. Mercolas Tanning Systems as a safe and effective way to help you achieve natural levels of Vitamin D. The Vitamin D Council is a nonprofit organization whose aim is to educate the public about Vitamin D deficiency and how to prevent it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvSZ-KSz93M&feature=player_embedded
